rivulet 004 is a home run for the young label wich operates between leipzig and berlin. the split-ep comes with 2 tracks by talski and stanley schmidt wich discloses the understanding of electronic music between the antagonism of deep and cheesy, techno and house, melancholia and euphoria that always drove the idea behind the label. stanley schmidt delivers a sample-based deephousetrack, wich opens up from a darker mood to sunshine- inspired >emo-house< using soul-inspired strings and a catchy (but not well known) vocal-snippet by candi staton. >a.brain0030< by talski is a dark, mystical techno-ballad wich comes with a broken beat and a drifting tribal. as always talski proofes his skills by using unusual sounds and a nonconform arrangement, wich always bears the quality of his tracks.

collaborations are often the fortune of timing. with andy having moved on since closing the dissident label to launching his cave paintings project to tim s departure from battant and striking out as andrew weatheralls engineer and soon to be co-member of the asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at eachs respective studios. a love of new wave, new beat, uk bleep and detroit techno all feature in b-ultras and the aptly titled, neu beat. both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of andys (and co-hort joe hart) infamous world unknown dancefloor. running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid houses ideals. clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. backing these up is a remix of b-ultras from jamie paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some b-boy dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.

for its third chapter, half baked records presents an ep from the producers collective of birdsmakingmachine. the birds stay true to their sound, a clever balance between ethereal atmospheres and swinging minimal house production.

the los angeles based steve huerta popped up on the sccucci manucci radar via his releases on the formidable amadeus records and dirt crew recordings, we tracked his progress and liked what we heard. a couple of months back we handed over the keys to mr. manuccis penthouse apartment and sl 230 pagoda to the young angeleno, and in-between being fitted for smoking jackets and hand made brogues he managed to get some productions complete with the results pressed up for the fifth release on manuccis mistress.

label boss dj bone mans the controls for the 38th release on subject detroit, laying down a typically fierce, three pronged auditory attack. *what he said* tactfully yet forcefully treads the line between house and techno, cherry picking physiognomies from each side of that ever-blurring line and constructing something fresh but bristling with familiar subject detroit elegances. a favourite fixture from bones more recent dj sets, *i do* sees bubbling, arpeggiated chords simmer and swoop from foreground to background loosely as one solitary, remanipulated ticking hat keeps things in formation. watch out for the thunderous, doubled-up drum arrangement that crashes in to the picture out of nowhere! b side track *rhythm soul funk* is a genuine hard hitter and another that tiptoes between the old school and the nouveau.
